The Philadelphia Daily News reports that Eagles fullback Leonard Weaver is still dealing with complications from a major knee injury in 2010 and is not expected to play in 2012. "My heart is to get back," Weaver said, "but it's not going to happen this season. It's tough."
The Philadelphia Eagles announced that they have restructured the contract of defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins. “We are very excited about having Cullen back on our football team," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said on Tuesday. "Cullen made an immediate impact for us this year on and off the field. We look forward to a great future together with him." Jenkins signed a five-year, $30.5 million contract with the Eagles after the lockout. That deal included a $1 million guaranteed base salary and a $3... [Read More]
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman spoke today on a panel at Widener Law School in Wilmington but he declined to discuss whether cornerback Asante Samuel will return to the Eagles, providing the stock answer that the phone always rings when a team has a surplus at a position. However, Roseman believes that the trio of Pro Bowl cornerbacks can still work in the Eagles’ secondary. “ Last year was a unique situation in terms of practice time and preparation time,” Roseman said. “So I think that it gives us an... Eagles general manager Howie Roseman spoke today and while he obviously didn't directly reveal the teams' plans, he did seem to hint that the team wants DeSean Jackson back. "We feel very fortunate to have him on our team," Roseman said Thursday. "He's a player that we drafted, we've grown (with), and we think he's got a great future ahead." Roseman wouldn’t comment specifically on the franchise tag (which the team can apply as soon as Monday) or any talks with the star receiver, saying they are... [Read More]
Eagles fans grumbly over the lack of change in the coaching ranks might feel a little better about another area in which the Birds are standing pat. The team isn't raising ticket prices for 2012. All tickets will remain at 2011 levels, Eagles president Joe Banner said yesterday. "This is something we're thrilled to be able to do," said Banner, who noted this will be the fourth year in a row under the current price structure. "There aren't many teams who are selling out their stadiums and have a waiting... [Read More]
Now that Randy Moss has expressed a desire to return to playing in the NFL, the question is where will he land? Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports reports that according to a source close to Moss, the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Jets are at least curious and the San Francisco 49ers could look to fill a hole if they let go of Josh Morgan in free agency. A source with one of those teams conveyed via text it would be “intriguing” to see what Moss has left in the tank after a year away from the game.
Jeff McLane of the Phialdelphia Inquirer reports the Eagles are going to franchise DeSean Jackson. They will not let their Pro Bowl receiver - whose contract is set to expire - walk without getting something in return, according to NFL sources. That means the Eagles will do one of three things before March 5: They will franchise Jackson and keep him for the 2012 season, franchise and then trade him or they will agree to a contract extension with the 25-year-old, an unlikely proposition at this point. Feb. 20 is the... [Read More]
Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel wants to continue playing in Philadelphia, but said Friday he hasn't received a clear indication he's in the team's plans for next season. Samuel's future, along with the team's intentions for pending free-agent wide receiver DeSean Jackson, are two of the biggest offseason questions facing the Eagles. Jackson said "of course" when asked by The Philadelphia Inquirer if he wants to return to the Eagles, but couldn't elaborate on his future with the team. "I just take it day... [Read More]
Plaxico Burress spent last season, his first since being released from prison, playing in New York, but instead of playing for his former team, the Giants, Burress signed on to play one season with the rival Jets. Burress told WCAU-TV while in Indianapolis for Super Bowl XLVI that he wants to play for the Philadelphia Eagles. It was thought the Eagles would take a hard look at Burress last offseason following the successful return of Michael Vick from a prison sentence. The Eagles reportedly had some interest, although... Adam Caplan of TheSidelineView.com sees some changes coming this offseason in the Philadelphia Eagles' receiving corps, while he believes the team will put the franchise tag on DeSean Jackson later this month, Caplan as well as NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora believes the Eagles will shop Jackson around the league. Caplan also predicts the Eagles will pursue free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress, it was no secret last year that Burress wanted to play for the Eagles as he left prison wearing a Philadelphia ball cap. ... NFL Network reports that the Eagles intend to franchise WR DeSean Jackson, but not necessarily keep him. By franchising Jackson, he can sign a one-year tender for a set salary for 2012, but the team could move him in a deal for what they deem fair compensation. If no one wants to trade for Jackson, the Eagles would then keep him and consider his one-year deal as a "prove it" type contract.
In a little over two weeks, DeSean Jackson will find out if the Eagles intend to franchise him on the first day they are able to do so. The wide receiver, who attended the NFL Honors Show on Saturday, said that he did not know where he stood with the Eagles. “It’s out of my hands,” Jackson told NBC10 during a brief red carpet interview. “So hopefully I am and I will look forward to that. I’m just anxious to see what’s going to happen.” Jackson’s four-year contract is up, but the Eagles have the option to place a... [Read More]
Former Eagles safety Brian Dawkins said Thursday that he hasn't yet made a decision on whether he wants to play a 14th NFL season. The 38-year-old eight-time Pro Bowler, who will be a free agent in March, has played the last three seasons in Denver after leaving the Eagles as a free agent in 2009, missed four of the Broncos' last five games, including both of their playoff games, with a neck injury. "The season's not even over yet; The Super Bowl hasn't been played,'' said Dawkins. "I'll give it some prayer... [Read More]
Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network mentioned that the Patriots intend to use their franchise tag on WR Wes Welker if they’re unable to reach a long-term agreement with him before the March 5th deadline for franchise tags. “They’ve been trying all season to get a deal done,” said Lombardi, “but it hasn’t come to fruition yet. … They’re not going to lose Wes Welker. He’s going to be a part of their team.” The Patriots are believed to be willing to offer Welker a two or three year contract but he’s been holding out hope... [Read More]
Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network mentioned that he believes the Philadelphia Eagles will use the franchise tag on WR DeSean Jackson. “He’s someone that you don’t just let walk,” said LaCanfora on NFL Network’s XLVI Live. “Whether he’s going to be there long-term remains to be seen, but you franchise him, then entertain trade possibilities.” Head coach Andy Reid said that he was impressed by the way Jackson performed during the final stretch of the season. Whether or not you agree with Reid statement regarding... [Read More]
