Jaguars owner Shad Khan hopes to remove the tarps from EverBank field, according to an interview with the Sports Business Journal. "Absolutely. To me, every day I look at the tarps it is like underachieving, and I can't wait to be able to do that." The tarps were originally place on EverBank field prior to the 2005 NFL season, reducing the stadium's capacity from close to 77,000 to just over 67,000. It's been a black eye for the team and community, and as Khan says it's a sign as underachieving. Hopefully,... [Read More]
The hard deadline for Jaguars season-ticket holders to renew is March 2, and Macky Weaver, the team’s senior vice president/sales and marketing, said he hopes to boost the renewal rate from 78 percent in the lockout year to 90 percent this season. Last year, the Jaguars sold around 35,000 non-premium season tickets in the general bowl, Weaver said that unlike last year when the team extended the deadline, fans who don’t renew by early March will be in danger of losing their seats. The season-ticket holders who renew... [Read More]
Senior Writer for Jaguars.com, John Oehser, reports that CB Rashean Mathis has admitted that he will not be one-hundred percent healthy by the start of the free agency signing period. Mathis, a one time pro bowler in 2006, is still rehabbing to recover from a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) that he suffered during the second quarter of a game versus the Colts and hopes to be able to get healthy enough so he can return to the NFL. “I played for nine years, and aside from my groin, I never had a serious injuries –... The Florida Times-Union reports that preliminary discussions have begun about Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee's contract, and both sides want a long-term deal reached. The franchise tag is an option for Scobee, and the Jaguars are not planning to consider using it on any of their other players. The kicker tag number is expected to be around $2.65 million. That means a kicker who is franchised will be paid that sum for a one-year deal, and it will cost two first-round picks for another team to sign him.
While Jacksonville was able to raid the Falcons’ coaching ranks for their head coach and quarterbacks coach, the Falcons drew the line when they tried to land wide receivers coach Terry Robiskie. Former offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey was hired as Jacksonville’s head coach and ex-quarterbacks coach Bob Bratkowski was hired as their offensive coordinator. Both were under contract, but the moves to Jacksonville were promotions and couldn’t be blocked. Robiskie’s move was lateral to the same position and could be... [Read More]
Jaguars owner Shad Khan hired Mark Lamping, according to a source, in a move he announced to the Jaguars staff via e-mail on Monday per Tania Ganfuli of the Florida Times-Union. Lamping will oversee all non-football operations starting February 27. He and Jaguars general manager Gene Smith will both report directly to Khan. New Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski made an appearance on Jaguars This Week on Wednesday evening. Bratkowski spoke on a myriad of different things concerning developing the offense, including what he's seen from quarterback Blaine Gabbert on film. He came in probably in the worst year a quarterback can come into the NFL (because of the lockout last off-season). "He came out of a shotgun system. He hadn't taken four-or-five step drops. He had no benefit of OTAs and offseason. He showed up... [Read More]
The Jacksonville Jaguars hired former Kansas State coach Ron Prince as assistant offensive line coach. His tenure included the school’s first-ever consensus... [Read More]
Many have tabbed new Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan as a savvy businessman who will approach owning the Jaguars in a different manner than Wayne Weaver did. We've already seen it a bit with Khans "bravado" and the announcement that the team will change the primary uniform color and get entirely new Nike jerseys in 2013. It looks like Khan's business mind is going to work for the city of Jacksonville as well and not just for the franchise. "There are a huge amount of decisions made in global... [Read More]
Chapel Hill police say the son of new Jacksonville Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey is among three former North Carolina athletes arrested for possession of cocaine. Jaguars owner Shahid Khan said if he owned the team the at the time of the draft two years ago the Jaguars definitely would have selected Tim Tebow. "100 percent I would have," Khan, who purchased the team for a reported $760 million in January, told WOKV in a recent interview. "Absolutely." The Jaguars used the No. 10 pick to select Cal defensive tackle Tyson Alualu but would have traded for a pick later in the first round to get Tebow, according to a story by Florida Times-Union reporter Gene... Before Greg Olson accepted the quarterbacks coach position with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he was interviewed for and was offered, but declined an opportunity to become the Chicago Bears' passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports. According to Biggs, Olson is the only candidate to interview for the position, but chose the Jaguars' offer, which included a longer term (three years compared to the Bears' two-year offer) and the additional title of "assistant head... Middle linebacker Paul Posluszny's first off-season with the Jacksonville Jaguars will be spent rehabbing from surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union reports. According to Ganguli, Posluszny already went under the knife and will be out until training camp. "The only thing it’ll screw up is a training schedule," Posluszny said of his shoulder injury after the end of the season. "When I’ll be able to get back into training 100 percent, but other than... Jaguars GM Gene Smith is determined to fix the WR corps this offseason — both via the draft and free agency. Once Smith ranks the available free agents, expect the Jaguars to land whomever they view as the top guy. Jacksonville proved last offseason that it is willing to overspend — and has plenty of cash to burn — so it is unlikely to be outbid, Pro Football Weekly hears. An interesting caveat to watch for will be whether Smith is willing to brush aside character concerns to acquire a talented receiver who may come... [Read More]
