Tennessee Titans safety Michael Griffin, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on March 13, says he doesn't have any major qualms if the organization applied the franchise tag to him. It is not certain the team will use the tag on any player, but the Titans are considering Griffin as a possibility at $6.2 million, and according to what the safety told Nashville's 102.5 The Game via TitanInsider, it wouldn't be a big issue to him. “Would I be happy?” Griffin said. “Talking to my mother and coming from a... When the Tennessee Titans meet with the agent for cornerback Cortland Finnegan this weekend at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Terry Watson is hoping the Titans show something in terms of money. Watson said the Titans have not countered a proposal he made to them in August, one believed to be in the ballpark of a $50 million package, which came on the heels of an offer made by then general manager Mike Reinfeldt of $7 million a year over four years. “I can't negotiate with myself,” Watson said of the talks.... The Titans have had conversations with linebacker Patrick Bailey about a long-term contract, according to his agent Dr. D.S. Ping. “I am always optimistic,” Ping said. “Tennessee is a team that likes to take care of its ball players, and Patrick is happy with Tennessee. We’ll see.” The Titans have also discussed a multiyear contract for linebacker Tim Shaw, who was special teams captain in 2011, and defensive lineman Jason Jones. The Titans have already signed tight end Craig Stevens, wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins and... [Read More]
Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports the Titans and safety Jordan Babineaux’s agent have had “fairly meaningful discussions and dialogue” about a long-term deal, according to agent J.R. Rickert. Because the Titans took advantage of a league rule that lowered Babineaux’s cap number in 2011, however, the team can’t sign him before the March 13 start of free agency like they’ve done with other players scheduled to become free agents. “If the Titans are able to offer him a package that is fair and reflects his market value,... Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports there has been no progress in contract talks between the Titans and the agent for cornerback Cortland Finnegan, though the two sides talked Friday. Finnegan is due to become an unrestricted free agent.
It is unlikely that Titans RB Chris Johnson won't improve upon his lackluster 2011 campaign. The biggest thing going for Johnson will be a full offseason working with the team. A team source recently indicated that Johnson's conditioning played as large of a role in his poor performance last season as anything. Although the team's blocking wasn't great and other factors contributed, Pro Football Wekely hears he simply was out of shape until the second half, when he strung a few solid games together, albeit against poor... Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt said in an interview on the team's official website that his rehab from a torn ACL is "ahead of schedule," and he said he is "ready" for the start of the season. He said he is able to do everything except cutting in his running, and Friday is scheduled to do field work. "Hopefully I'll be back sooner than later," Britt said. He said the team wants him ready for the start of training camp, but Britt would like to be ready for mini-camp in the early part of... [Read More]
After producing the second-worst running game in the league in 2011, the Titans have said there’s a good chance they’ll take an offensive lineman in one of the early rounds of this year’s draft. But if you’re thinking they might go as far as to use their first-round pick – No. 20 overall — to help bolster the offensive line, think again. When Titans Coach Mike Munchak spoke to earlier John Glennon of The Tennessean this week, he said the second round was probably as high as the team would go in search of an offensive... [Read More]
Paul Kuharsky of ESPN expects the Tennessee Titans to allow free agent cornerback Cortland Finnegan to test the free agent market. Just after the season ended signs indicated that the Titans would put the franchise tag on Finnegan but it has become clear the organization wants to pay him over $10 million on a one-year deal or tie up huge bucks on a long-term deal. There will likely be several suitors for Finnegan's services-perhaps starting with his old coach Jeff Fisher in St. Louis.
Former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Lofa Tatupu visited the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday, according to a league source. Tatupu, 29, was out of the NFL last season after being released by the Seahawks once the lockout was lifted. Tatupu was a three-time Pro Bowl selection to open his career, and he was a first-team All-Pro in 2007 when he had 83 tackles, four interceptions and three forced fumbles. He didn't receive any such accolades in the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons, when his production dropped.
The Tennessee Titans have announced that they have reached agreement on a one-year contract with free agent defensive tackle Lamar Divens. Financial terms were not disclosed. Divens, 26, went undrafted out of Tennessee State and has had stints with the San Diego Chargers, Baltimore Ravens and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 6-foot-3, 338-pound Divens appeared in five games for the Ravens between the 2008 and 2010 seasons. Divens worked out for the Titans on September 13 and reportedly visited the club last week.
The Tennessee Titans have begun preliminary discussions with free agent defensive lineman Jason Jones on a contract extension, according to sources familiar with the situation. Jones is one of 16 Titans who are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents on March 13, but is also at or near the top of the list of players the Titans hope to retain and keep off the market. The Titans re-signed tackle Mike Otto on Thursday and had previously signed tight end Craig Stevens last month. Jones could be the next target as... [Read More]
The Sports Xchange reports that new Titans GM Ruston Webster said WR Kenny Britt, who suffered a torn ACL in September and had surgery in early October, should return in time for training camp in 2012. He said Britt appears to be a fast healer and is ahead of schedule in his recovery. "Kenny has been working hard and he's coming fast, probably even a little faster than I thought he would. So I'm real happy about that," he said. "We expect to have him out there for training camp. The good thing about his... [Read More]
The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms on a contract extension with wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins, Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean reports. The Titans have confirmed the multi-year agreement, though financial details were not disclosed. A fourth-round pick out of Cal by the Titans in 2008, Hawkins caught 19 passes for 239 yards and zero touchdowns in 29 games over his first three seasons before hauling in 47 passes for 470 yards and his first NFL touchdown in 16 games in 2011. Hawkins was scheduled to be an unrestricted... [Read More]
Hours after being released by the Oakland Raiders, free agent cornerback Stanford Routt has visits planned with the Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans, ESPN's Josina Anderson reports. As a vested veteran, Routt is not subject to waivers. Both the Titans and Bills have issues at the No. 1 cornerback spot. For the Bills, Terrence McGee is coming off a season-ending knee injury, and for the Titans, Cortland Finnegan is an unrestricted free agent.
